This is Africa Day 2012

African Liberation Day on May 25 is an annual holiday in various countries in Africa, coinciding with African Union's Africa Day.

Africa Day is celebrated around the world every year on May 25th. Its aim is to celebrate African diversity and success and to highlight the cultural and economic potential that exists on the African continent.
If you would like to find out what's planned in your area, you will have to rely on Google. I could not find a link by state/city

However, I did find an event in California

 Friday, May 25 11:30a
at California State Capitol, Sacramento, CA

Come and celebrate African Day at the California State Capitol. Everyone is invited to join the celebration of progress throughout the African Union. Together, the cultural and economic potential of expanding African Union ~ California trade and commerce is explored. The California Black Agriculture Working Group will continue raising awareness to the challenges and progress restoring Agriculture as the Foundation of Black Culture in the 6th Region of the African Union.
