150 Women Who Shake the World

Letter from Tostan

Dear Tostan Friends and Supporters,

Great news! Coinciding with International Women's Day on March 8th, Tostan's Executive Director Molly Melching was included in Newsweek's and The Daily Beast's list of "150 Women Who Shake the World." This list, which was featured in the March 14th edition of Newsweek, consists of extraordinary women world leaders, activists, and change-makers who are successfully breaking down barriers of prejudice and gender inequality and empowering women through education and human rights.

We are so happy that Molly has been recognized in this way, having been numbered among such influential women who are all working around the globe to improve the lives of women and girls. Click here to see the entire list. In fact this week, many of the women included in this list will be gathering and speaking at the Women in the World in New York from March 10-12.

When I spoke to Molly herself about this, she said that she is honored and humbled: "I share this honor with the thousands of women and men, both in Tostan partner communities and everywhere around the world, who are working tirelessly to improve the lives of women and girls in their communities."

I'm also pleased to note that Tostan was highlighted this week by Google as a "recommended organization" that is effectively working to improve the lives of women worldwide. Google encourages those who support the empowerment of women to donate to one of the progressive organizations featured on their site dedicated to International Women's Day. Click here to see the list of all recommended organizations.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and partnership. This year we already have so much to celebrate together!

Warm wishes,

Gannon Gillespie
Director of External Relations, Tostan
